Welcome to the Umpqua Valley

The very name of this river, Umpqua… Some say it means “Thundering Waters,” while others translate it as “One is Satisfied.” Both interpretations are apt; its numerous waterfalls inspire and appeal to the soul with their majesty and beauty, and satisfaction is the inevitable result. Whether your interest is wineries or waterfalls, hot springs or history, geology or just genteel relaxation, the Umpqua has it all.

Many of the waterfalls along Highway 138 have ADA Accessible trails and viewing platforms of popular waterfalls. Check individual itinerary stops for details. All Country House Inns properties provided ADA Compliant rooms with easy access from the parking lot, and other thoughtful features to ensure a safe and independent stay.

What you need to know

It’s Remote: Download your directions! You may find yourself out of cellular range once you are more than a few miles off of Interstate 5. GPS and cellular coverage may be spotty or unreliable, so please plan for an offline adventure.

Gas Up: Before leaving the towns of Roseburg or Winston, be sure to have plenty of fuel! Adventures to the East or West ends of the Umpqua Valley may land you more than 70 miles away from the nearest gas station.

Dress appropriately: The Umpqua region spans from coast to mountain top. Temperatures in the central valley can be substantially higher than on the coast or at Crater Lake. Be sure to bring along an extra sweatshirt, socks and jacket, just in case they're needed.
Crater Lake

This natural wonder and National Park is the ultimate destination experience. Located about an hour away from any major metropolitan area, we recommend a 2-night stay to fully enjoy your excursion in the region. This will allow plenty of time to take in the special wonders that the region has to offer. We invite you to make the most of this adventure and create memories to last a lifetime.

Toketee Falls

Toketee Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in all of Oregon, renowned far and wide for the graceful columnar basalt formation framing the two-stepped falls. The North Umpqua River has carved a sinuous gorge out of the lava flow, resulting in a waterfall of 113 feet in height - a 28 foot upper tier which plunges into a pool flanked by a deep alcove, followed by an 85 foot plunge into a large pool.

Umpqua Hot Springs

Located in the central Oregon Cascades about one hour from the I5 corridor, Umpqua Hot Springs is year round accessible. Umpqua features 3 hot pools (one covered) located on a mineral deposit situated above the North Umpqua River. This collection of geothermal pools sit right on the edge of a rock face, spilling 105-degree water into the North Umpqua River below. The quarter-mile hike to the pools is steep.
